Penderyn Copperworks Distillery
Swansea

Penderyn Swansea Copperworks Distillery was once the powerhouse of the Hafod & Morfa Copperworks. Archer Humphryes took the building from a derelict state and completely transformed it, the concept being the result of extensive restoration and interior design. The team have worked on all the three distilleries, bringing to life the Penderyn Brand in the heart of Wales.

Bringing back copper into the building was key in the heritage ambition, with all the stills being constructed from copper. Distilling in Wales was a lost art until the late 1990’s when the concept was conceived. A unique copper single – pot designed by Dr. David Faraday, a relative of the late great 19th century scientist Michael Faraday, was installed which produces a spirit at an industry high of 92% which greatly influences the flavour of Penderyn’s whisky.

The opening of Penderyn’s third distillery marks an important milestone in Swansea’s cultural and economic revitalisation. With its commitment to quality craftsmanship and its dedication to preserving Welsh heritage, Penderyn Distillery is poised to make a significant contribution to the city’s reputation as a vibrant and must-visit destination. Penderyn Distillery’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Davies said: “Opening our new facility in Swansea is a major step forward for Penderyn as a business and a brand. We are adding a significant amount of additional production capacity to allow the business to continue its trajectory of continued high growth and also beautiful new visitor facilities that will ensure that people can experience our brand story as well as being able to discover and enjoy world class single malts from Wales”.
